Signs and symptoms:Symptoms may include persistent cough, sputum streaked with blood, chest pain, voice change, and recurrent pneumonia or bronchitis.Survival:The 1-year relative survival for lung cancer increased from 37% in 1975-1979 to 44% in 2005-2008, largely due to improvements in surgical techniques and combined therapies. However, the 5-year survival rate for all stages combined is only 16%. Only 15% of lung cancers are diagnosed at a localized stage, for which the 5-year survival rate is 52%.
